Sand Casting Rings On Old Harry Rocks

In late February 2024 I had a special request for two wedding rings. But with a twist! The rings were to be made on the Old Harry Rocks area near beautiful Studland in Dorset.

So I set off with my equipment and pre made sand casts. I also had to somehow find some beach sand to add to one of the casts for a separate order. So I embarked on a lengthy 14 mile run up the Purbeck Way trail towards Corfe castle and back. I timed this trip perfectly so that the blue skies and sunshine were out. What a glorious run it was! Such an amazing trail route with vast scenery from left to right.

Towards the East of Old Harry Rocks is a long stretch of beach that goes all the way up to the Sandbanks river crossing. I collected my sand from here. I then set about melting 9ct white and then 9 ct yellow gold. Pouring each one into the sand cast on top of Old Harry Rocks. The sun was almost setting and I had one more ring to do in rough and with the added sand that I had collected from the beach. This gives it a very textured look and unique only to that location.

All perfectly done and luckily no errors! The day is almost over as I watch the sun dip below the horizon and the air starts to cool very quickly. Time for the nearest pub! So I head to the Bankes Arms Inn for a well deserved half pint of ale. What a beautiful place!
