A trip to St Ives, Cornwall

A trip to St Ives, Cornwall

If you have ever been to St Ives, Cornwall in the summer, you will understand why I regularly go there for inspiration, walks and of course old pubs. This is an area famous for artist creators and dreamers. Where the turquoise seas constantly smash up against the ancient and heavily eroded cliff faces.

I am very familiar to this area, as I have done many races that cross this beautiful town, so I know where all the good spots are to carve the wax models that I use to make jewellery.

Here are some pieces I created last summer just West of St Ives, on top of the towering cliffs. Each piece is carved in situ, so that all the very small details of the landscape become a part of the ring. As the artist paints in situ, so do I but with wax.

You will notice Australian opal is used a lot in my pieces, I feel this unique stone resembles the different shades of blue of the ocean and the light reflected back is constantly moving and changing.
